  • Army Corps sends 3 engineers to Colorado landslide

    Three U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District engineers departed Sacramento June 2 to provide technical assistance to state and local agencies responding to the massive West Salt Creek Landslide near Collbran, Colo.

  • Corps reinstates Sacramento levee rehabilitation eligibility

    Sacramento levees are eligible for federal rehabilitation assistance again after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers approved a letter of intent to deal with remaining encroachment issues over time. A letter of intent is the first step of developing a system-wide improvement framework, or SWIF – a Corps policy that allows levee maintaining agencies to be eligible for federal levee rehabilitation assistance while they work to fix difficult maintenance items according to an approved plan and timeline.

  • Corps encourages boaters and swimmers: wear life jackets, watch for low-water hazards

    This Memorial Day, before you head out for an adventure on or near the water, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers encourages you to make sure you have properly-fitting life jackets for everyone and that you please wear them. Also be aware of lower water levels in your favorite lakes – don’t assume it’s just like previous years.

  • Black Butte Lake is ready for guests

    Have no reservations -- there’s plenty of gorgeous blue water, camping and updated facilities ready for use at Black Butte Lake. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District recreation park near Orland now has 85,000 acre-feet of water -- seven times as much as the seasonal low from back when photos of the dry, cracked lakebed came to symbolize California’s drought.

  • Two more giant spillway gates set to arrive at Folsom Dam

    Two more giant gates for the new auxiliary spillway at Folsom Dam are scheduled to complete the 600-mile journey from Vancouver, Wash., to Folsom this month with the first one scheduled to arrive early in the morning Saturday, May 10. A second delivery this month is scheduled to arrive early in the morning on May 17.

  • Corps participates in Life Jacket Trade-in Day, May 17

    In celebration of Safe Boating Week, members of the public are invited to trade in their old life jackets for a fresh, clean new one May 17 at any U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District park. Old jackets will be exchanged for a new U.S. Coast Guard-approved type III life jacket, courtesy of the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways.

  • Corps to fill borehole test sites at Success Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District is scheduled to begin work in late April to fill and close borehole testing sites at Success Dam that were drilled to evaluate the integrity of the earthen structure and stability of soil and rock underneath the dam during the Success Dam Safety Modification Study.

  • Corps approves full water storage capacity at Success Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District approved April 11 raising the operating restriction of the reservoir behind Success Dam to the maximum authorized storage capacity of 82,291 acre-feet, or a storage elevation of 652.5 feet. Ultimately, this could mean more water for local users during high-water months.

  • Corps completes Monterey groundwater cleanup project ahead of schedule

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District has completed an $18 million groundwater cleanup and environmental restoration project at the former Naval Auxiliary Air Station in Monterey, about 15 years and $4.5 million ahead of schedule.
