Heidi Simko, a regulatory assistant for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District, has been named the 2016 District Regulator of the Year and awarded the Randy Snyder Regulatory Excellence Award.

Simko earned the award for her “outstanding reliability, can-do spirit and unwavering commitment to the team and the regulatory mission throughout the year,” said Mike Jewell, chief of Regulatory Division.

The Randy Snyder Regulatory Excellence Award is awarded each year to one team member who exemplifies excellence in carrying out their duties and responsibilities every day. Sacramento District Commander Col. David Ray presented the Commanders Award to Simko on May 24, 2017.

According to citation text: “When the regulatory team lost two key support personnel, Simko willingly volunteered to assist, putting in many extra hours to cover time and attendance, travel orders and other important tasks for affected branches.”

“Simko often came up with innovative solutions to challenging problems, was the go-to person in the division for her knowledge of U.S. Army procedures and provided tremendous quality control on critical correspondence,” said Jewell. “She also trained new employees and provided excellent support in the execution of the team’s annual meeting.”

Simko did all this while also pursuing an Environmental Studies degree at Sacramento City College. She has worked in Regulatory since 2013, and the Sacramento District since 2002.

“Her positive attitude, dedication to the team and ability to complete challenging tasks on time and with high quality exemplifies the Regulatory Program public service commitment,” said Jewell.
