Construction continues on Marysville Ring Levee

Construction of a small but necessary section of the Marysville Ring Levee is underway and should be completed by mid-August 2017, maintaining momentum on the project to lessen flood risk in the northern California town of Marysville. The current construction was funded at approximately $825,000 and the site is located in the center of a railway intersection known as Binney Junction, adjacent to the Catholic Cemetery of Marysville.

Public meetings set to discuss proposed highway modifications at French Gulch

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District has released its proposal for the modification design of State Route 155 at the French Gulch Recreation Area located at Isabella Lake in Kern County. The proposed modification outlined in a draft Supplemental Environmental Assessment is designed to improve traffic operations at the intersection of SR 155 and Daedrich Ranch Road.

Simko named Sacramento District Regulator of the Year

Heidi Simko, a regulatory assistant for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District, has been named the 2016 District Regulator of the Year and awarded the Randy Snyder Regulatory Excellence Award. She earned the award for her “outstanding reliability, can-do spirit and unwavering commitment to the team and the regulatory mission throughout the year,” said Mike Jewell, chief of Regulatory Division.

Corps releases revised environmental report for Folsom Dam Raise project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District and Central Valley Flood Protection Board are recirculating for review a draft environmental impact statement/environmental impact report for the Folsom Dam Raise Project. The report was initially released in July 2016; however, it is being be recirculated for a second public review and comment period due to significant changes made since then.

In 2006, adult honeybees started to disappear from hives. Few, if any, dead bees were found in or around the hives. They were simply vanishing. Once so prevalent they were taken for granted, the decline of bees has increasingly brought them into the spotlight as an important species that needs protection.

Folsom Dam Water Control Manual update out for public review

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District released a draft environmental document today addressing the proposed Folsom Dam Water Control Manual update. The Water Control Manual outlines specifications for flood storage space and reservoir releases when water encroaches into the flood storage space.

President's Fiscal 2018 Budget for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works Program released

The President’s Budget for fiscal year 2018 (FY 2018) includes $5.002 billion in gross discretionary funding for the Civil Works program of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps). "The fiscal 2018 Civil Works budget for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reflects the administration's priorities to support and improve the nation's economy and infrastructure, and to protect the American people," said Mr. Doug Lamont, senior official performing the duties of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works. "This Budget supports the core mission areas of coastal and inland navigation, reducing flood risks from riverine flooding and along our coasts, and restoring aquatic ecosystems.”
