Corps to conduct traffic control operations at Folsom Point recreation area

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District and its contractor Kiewit Infrastructure will conduct traffic control operations September 5-23 as part of the Folsom Dam auxiliary spillway construction project, forcing a detour and temporary delays inside the Folsom Point recreation area.

Proposed plans to restore lands disturbed by construction of the new Folsom Dam auxiliary spillway were announced today by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District and Central Valley Flood Protection Board in a draft environmental report available for public review and comment.

Corps to stabilize American River bank from new flows

During future storm releases from Folsom Dam's auxiliary spillway flows will enter the American River at forces and angles like never before. Even after passing a series of engineered water-slowing features, the combined flows could destabilize part of the river's bank making it vulnerable to erosion.

UPDATE: Folsom spillway blasting to periodically close roadway weekdays 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Through the end of the year, Folsom Lake Crossing will be closed for up to one hour weekdays from 1:30-2:30 p.m. for blasting work to excavate portions of the new Folsom Dam auxiliary spillway approach channel.

Accelerated Folsom Dam spillway progress estimated to reduce project emissions

Analysis of air quality compliance for the Folsom Dam auxiliary spillway project released August 18 found that increased construction activity would likely cause emissions to exceed federal thresholds for 2014, but could help reduce total emissions over the life of the project.
