SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District and its contractor Kiewit Infrastructure will conduct traffic control operations September 5-23 as part of the Folsom Dam auxiliary spillway construction project, forcing a detour and temporary delays inside the Folsom Point recreation area.

Park access via the temporary bridge along Folsom Point Access Road, as well as construction traffic along the haul road that runs underneath it, will be rerouted to allow restoration of the original park entrance.

Safety signs will be in place and traffic control flaggers will be present from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday to alert all drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians of the detour and impending delays.

Efforts to restore the original park entrance began last month with preparations to remove the temporary bridge and haul road, and is part of the Phase 5 restoration work now underway on the auxiliary spillway project.

The auxiliary spillway project is being constructed under the Corps’ Folsom Dam Modification Project, also called the Joint Federal Project, to implement dam safety and flood risk reduction features at Folsom Dam and associated facilities to help prevent catastrophic flooding in the Sacramento region. The auxiliary spillway is on track for completion in October 2017.
