  • Corps to host public meetings to update Pine Flat Lake master plan

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District will host public meetings Sept. 9-10 seeking input to update Pine Flat Lake and Dam’s master plan, which guides the management of natural and cultural resources and development of recreation-related facilities in and around the Corps-managed reservoir 35 miles east of Fresno.
  • Accelerated Folsom Dam spillway progress estimated to reduce project emissions

    Analysis of air quality compliance for the Folsom Dam auxiliary spillway project released August 18 found that increased construction activity would likely cause emissions to exceed federal thresholds for 2014, but could help reduce total emissions over the life of the project.
  • Corps begins real estate actions for Isabella Lake Dam project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District has begun to acquire land and relocate residents at two of 12 properties that will be impacted by construction of the Isabella Lake Dam Safety Modification Project. As part of the analysis of the project’s potential effects on the properties, the Corps released a finding of no significant impact and supplemental environmental assessment for public review.
  • Corps awards $53.7M contract for ground support facility at Beale AFB

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District awarded a $53,699,643 contract Aug. 7 to Swinerton Builders of Arvada, Colo., for construction of a distributed common ground support operations facility at Beale Air Force Base, near Marysville.
  • Martis Creek Lake reopens, algae determined non-toxic

    Martis Creek Lake near Truckee has reopened to the public following initial investigation of a possible algae bloom that closed the reservoir July 12. California Fish and Wildlife examined the algae at Martis Creek Lake and determined they were not a toxic variety, so U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District officials have reopened the popular fishing reservoir but continue to caution visitors against swimming or other direct water contact for now.
  • Corps releases inspection ratings for Woodland levees

    Inspections by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District rated the levee system surrounding the City of Woodland, Calif., as unacceptable.
  • Army Corps awards $5.5 million contract new Tooele wind turbine

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District awarded a $5.5 million contract July 8 to Icenogle Construction Management Inc. of San Francisco to install a 2-megawatt wind turbine at Tooele Army Depot in Utah. Juhl Energy from Pipestone, Minn., is the lead design and installation subcontractor. Construction is scheduled to begin spring of 2015.
  • Corps unveils draft plans for West Sacramento flood risk reduction

    A plan to implement enhanced flood risk reduction features around West Sacramento’s perimeter was revealed today as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District released its draft general re-evaluation report and draft environmental impact statement/environmental impact report for the West Sacramento project for public review.
  • Likely algal bloom temporarily closes Martis Creek Lake

    Martis Creek Lake near Truckee has been temporarily closed due to a likely algal bloom. Access to the lake has been restricted and park rangers are posting signs warning visitors against entering or allowing their pets to enter the water. The Martis Creek Lake wildlife area and its hiking trails and the Alpine Meadows campground remain open during the lake closure.
  • Corps of Engineers set to top off new Folsom auxiliary dam Friday

    The last mass concrete for the Folsom auxiliary dam is set to be placed July 11, completing the structure of the new dam. Work will then shift to completing installation of its remaining electrical and mechanical components, including its 12 giant gates.
