SACRAMENTO, Calif. – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District parks will celebrate National Public Lands Day on Sept. 24, waiving fees for its day-use recreation areas and hosting volunteers for a number of park improvement projects.
Recreation areas at Black Butte Lake, Martis Creek, New Hogan Lake, Stanislaus River Parks, Hensley Lake, Pine Flat Lake, Lake Kaweah and Success Lake will all be hosting volunteer events.
Events will include volunteer projects starting in the morning and free lunch will be provided for volunteers afterward. Volunteers may also camp free at any of our parks either the night before or on public lands day.
National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands. For more than two decades, outdoor enthusiasts have come together to improve their local recreation areas by helping with landscaping, small construction projects, litter removal and trail maintenance.

National Public Lands Day at New Hogan Lake
Come out and participate in National Public Land's Day at New Hogan Lake! Some of the volunteer projects will include removing mistletoe from oak trees, removing tires from the lakebed, painting bollards and picnic tables, picking up litter, campsite clean-up (raking and sweeping), repairing picnic tables, and replacing decomposed granite around campground fire pits. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. A BBQ lunch will be provided for volunteers around noon. See you there!

National Public Lands Day at Stanislaus River Parks
This National Public Lands Day event will be held at Stanislaus River Parks, McHenry Recreation Area. For this event there will be an abundance of beneficial projects such as trail maintenance, wildflower planting, litter pick up, and tree planting. Lunch will be provided, and a guaranteed good time. The event will begin at 8 a.m. in the first parking lot on arrival. Please wear the appropriate clothes such as closed-toe shoes, and long pants and shirts to shield from the elements. All protective equipment will be provided outside of clothing. Snacks and lunch will be provided to all volunteers.

National Public Lands Day at Pine Flat Lake & Dam
This event will have volunteers improving almost 100 campsites at our largest campground, Island Park, and the interpretive trail at the same location. All volunteers should plan to use a shovel, rake or carry heavy items. Please wear closed-toe shoes; safety-toe boots if you've got them. We will provide gloves, water, sunscreen and other amenities. Coffee and pastries will be available in the morning and a lunch will be provided for volunteers.

National Public Lands Day at Hensley Lake
Come lend a hand and let’s upgrade your Lake! The Hensley Lake staff is excited to host this year’s National Public Lands Day at Hidden View Recreation Area. Park Rangers need your help with activities such as: tree and wildflower planting, trail maintenance, painting and much more!
Safety is a priority at Hensley Lake. We are more than happy to supply safety equipment such as safety gloves and safety glasses. We will also be providing all materials and supplies needed for this year’s project. Put on your closed-toe shoes, grab some sun screen, and come on out! Water and lunch will be provided to volunteers.

National Public Lands Day at Lake Kaweah
National Public Lands Day is a day of celebration for our shared lands. By maintaining the lands and facilities we are able to educate youths and adults alike in how important it is to care for our lands. There will be several different tasks and duties guided by park staff, such as tree planting, trail maintenance, litter pick up along the shoreline, painting of tables and picnic shelters, placing of signs and camping equipment, and much more. Lunch, snacks, and beverages will be provided to all volunteers.

National Public Lands Day at Success Lake
Please join us for event registration at 7 a.m. Lunch will be provided at noon, with work wrapping up at 3 p.m. The projects that volunteers will participate in include planting trees, trail work, trash pick-up along the shoreline, painting curbs in different areas around the lake, spreading sand at the tot lot, evasive weed control, installing trash receptacles in needed areas, restroom restoration, installation of campground markers in campsites and spreading decomposed granite in campsite areas.

Martis Creek & Truckee River Day Trail Maintenance
Trail maintenance at Martis Creek Wildlife Area. You can choose between a full day (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.) or a half day project (11 a.m. – 2 p.m.) Wear long pants and sturdy shoes. Please bring a hat, gloves, sunscreen, and a light lunch if you do a full day project. Snacks will be provided as well as water to refill your bottle. Projects include trail widening, raking, repairing fencing to protect creek banks and building walkways. After the volunteer work there is a River Fair from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Granite Flat campground in Truckee with food, booths and a fish release. (The event is open to all, not just those who volunteered.)
