Public comment period extended for temporary drought barriers

Published April 15, 2014
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The public comment period has been extended two weeks for the permit application from California Department of Water Resources regarding their proposal to erect three temporary drought barriers in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta.

Originally set to close April 16, the comment period is now open through April 29.

DWR proposes to place temporary barriers in Sutter Slough, Steamboat Slough and West False River in order to maximize fresh water in the Delta if current drought conditions persist. If approved, the rock barriers would be in place from May through November.

The Corps is interested in receiving comments related to the proposal's probable impacts on the affected aquatic environment and the secondary and cumulative effects.

The permit application can be viewed at http://1.usa.gov/1kHLhSZ.
