Some Black Butte Lake boat ramps re-open following recent rain

Published March 10, 2014
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Boaters have regained use of more launching ramps at Black Butte Lake, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District facility near Orland, following recent rainfall.

Buckhorn boat ramp has re-opened and Eagle Pass boat ramp is no longer restricted to shallow-draft boats with a reservoir level of 33,026 acre-feet (24 percent of gross pool) as of March 10.

One particular photo of a dry, cracked lakebed trapping a single safety buoy circulated nationwide and made Black Butte Lake symbolic of the deep drought gripping California.

The boat ramp at Orland Buttes recreation area remains closed, but that campground will re-open April 1. Camping is currently available at 22 sites in Buckhorn recreation area and all Buckhorn campsites will re-open April 1.

For camping reservations call 1-877-444-6777 or go online to recreation.gov.
