SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District will host an event at the Sacramento Weir to showcase more than $4B in Greater Sacramento flood risk management projects April 23 at 11 a.m.
In addition to a ceremonial groundbreaking for the Sacramento Weir expansion, construction projects at Natomas Basin, Folsom Dam, West Sacramento and along the American and Sacramento Rivers will also be highlighted, as well as the new comprehensive study of the Yolo Bypass that will evaluate multi-purpose project opportunities.
These projects will significantly reduce the risk of flood-related impacts in and around Sacramento, helping protect millions of people, businesses, infrastructure, and property.
Representative Doris Matsui (CA-7) will join Army and USACE leaders, as well as state and local stakeholders for the event which will be held at the Sacramento Weir construction site northwest of the city. Ceremony participants will be available for interviews immediately following its conclusion.
Because space is limited, this event is not open to the public, but media are encouraged to attend. News outlets planning to attend must RSVP by April 21 by emailing spk-pao@usace.army.mil. Please include the names of everyone in your party, your organization, and a contact email for late-breaking updates.
Media members must arrive between 10:15 and 10:45 https://maps.app.goo.gl/7dt9KtZ1i7rxzyBJ6. Signs and USACE representatives will direct drivers to the media parking area where they will be escorted a short distance to the event site.
