$4.1 million contract to improve Hunter Liggett solar energy efficiency

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District awarded a $4.1 million contract Dec. 27 to Tri-Technic Inc. of Sonora, for installation of a one megawatt grid energy storage unit at Fort Hunter Liggett, located in Monterey County.

Leadership Sacramento turns Corps planner into community leader

Kim Carsell, a planner with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District, is now a graduate of the Sacramento Metro Chamber’s Leadership Sacramento program and helped complete its largest-ever community service project: building an amphitheater for Sacramento educational non-profit Soil Born Farms.

Hunting restricted at Eastman Lake to protect nesting eagles

The area bordering and including Lakeview Trail at Eastman Lake (near Madera) is now in its seasonal hunting closure through July 15, 2013 to protect nesting bald eagles.

In-house design helps transform California military post

Since 2008, the Sacramento District has all but transformed the Presidio of Monterey, recently overseeing construction on three general instruction buildings for the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center. At the close of 2012, construction continues on yet another general instruction building and design for new facilities is nearing completion.

Black Butte Lake closes Observation Point Road

Officials at Black Butte Lake park have closed Observation Point Road to vehicle traffic during repairs to erosion damage caused by recent rain storms. Black Butte Lake Park, near Orland, is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District.

Marysville Ring Levee phase one wrapping up

After two full years of construction, phase one of the Marysville Ring Levee Project has drawn to a close with 4,600 linear feet of deep-soil-mixed cutoff wall installed – the first milestone in a four-phase project to reduce Marysville’s flood risk. “All major structural improvements for this stretch of levee are complete,” said Mark Ellis, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District project manager.

Corps identifies selected Isabella Lake Dam modernization plan

It was also in March of 1953 that the new Isabella Lake main and auxiliary dams were completed after five years of construction, and began serving Kern County and the surrounding cities with flood risk management, irrigation and hydroelectric use. Nearly 60 years later, they continue to serve those purposes, having helped prevent flooding in downstream communities at least 18 times. But today, Isabella Lake’s dams need an upgrade. A Corps-wide survey of its dams in 2005 put Isabella Lake Dam near the top of its list of highest at-risk dams. The Corps identified significant hydrologic, seismic and seepage issues.
