    Corps awards $6.6 million contract for deep-water channel dredging

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District awarded a $6.6 million contract July 31, 2013 to Vortex Marine Construction Inc. of Oakland for maintenance dredging along the Sacramento and Stockton deep-water ship channels.

    Emergency personnel respond to the scene after a vehicle, shown at left, plunged more than 100 feet into the Folsom Dam auxiliary spillway project construction site in Folsom, Calif., July 30, 2013. Employees of the project contractor, Granite Construction Inc., were the first to respond to the incident and safely extracted the driver from the vehicle. An electrical cable supplying power to the project was the only damage to the construction site. Work is expected to resume during the evening of July 30.

    Inspections of Isabella Lake Dam have found no evidence of damage or increased likelihood of dam failure following a 4.3-magnitude earthquake that hit July 24 at 9:46 a.m. approximately 20 miles southeast of the dam.

    Corps upgrades Natomas levee maintenance rating

    Natomas levees are eligible for federal rehabilitation assistance again after levee managers for Reclamation District No. 1000 fixed the most serious items identified in a recent levee inspection and the Corps approved a letter of intent to deal with remaining encroachments and vegetation issues over time.

    Corps to outline Sutter Basin feasibility study at public meeting

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District will host a public meeting July 22 at the Sutter County Veteran’s Hall in Yuba City to outline and accept comments on its draft feasibility report and environmental document for the Sutter Basin Pilot Feasibility Study.

We talked with a few of our volunteers from years past to hear more about the RV lifestyle, sightseeing on a Harley and what “getting away from it all” really means in the digital age.
