SACRAMENTO, Calif. – New Hogan Lake near Valley Springs, California, will celebrate National Public Lands Day, waiving fees for its day-use recreation areas and hosting volunteers for a number of park improvement projects on Sept. 26.
Volunteer projects will begin at 8 a.m. and free lunch will be provided for volunteers afterward. Volunteers may also camp free at New Hogan either the night before or on public lands day and will receive a coupon for a free day-use admission pass valid anytime in the next year at any park managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service or U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
National Public Lands Day is the nation's largest, single-day volunteer effort for public lands. For more than two decades, outdoor enthusiasts have come together to improve local recreation areas by helping with landscaping, small construction projects, litter removal and trail maintenance.
“National Public Lands Day is a great opportunity to celebrate the outdoors with family, meet other outdoor enthusiasts and take positive action to show love for America’s public lands,” said Jonathan Friedman, Sacramento District senior district park ranger.
Volunteers are encouraged to contact New Hogan Lake at 209-772-1343 for more information but can simply show up on Sept. 26 to pitch in.
Nearly 1,000 volunteers helped maintain facilities at Sacramento District parks last year.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is America’s largest provider of federal outdoor recreation, serving more than 370 million visitors annually at 422 lake and river recreation parks in 43 states. For more information on Sacramento District recreation opportunities visit bit.ly/SPKparks .
