SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District awarded a $12.78 million contract March 27 to Northern Construction LLC of Ogden, Utah, for a fire crash rescue facility at Hill Air Force Base, Utah.
Hill Air Force Base is undergoing an aggressive renovation and modification program in preparation for the new F-35 fighter jet. This new fire crash rescue facility along with a fire station completed by the Corps in 2011 will help the base be better prepared to begin training with these jets.
“This project will improve the response time of rescue personnel in the event of an emergency,” said Ken Wing, project manager for the Sacramento District. “It is also demonstrates the Corps’ commitment to the Air Force mission at Hill.”
Northern Construction will design and build the fire crash rescue facility, scheduled for completion by the end of 2016. The new facility will provide additional bays to accommodate more rescue vehicles and will be large enough to fit a new, wider class of vehicles.
Northern Construction is a U.S. Small Business Administration 8(a)-designated small business. The Small Business Administration’s 8(a) Business Development Program is designed to help small, disadvantaged businesses compete for federal contracts.
Also at Hill Air Force Base, the Corps is currently replacing about 860 feet of deteriorated runway asphalt with concrete, altering an existing building to house new F-35 flight simulators, and building two concrete storage magazines.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District provides planning, engineering, project management, environmental restoration and construction services to military and civilian customers in parts of eight western states, including California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon and Wyoming.
