SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Revitalized water recreation at Success Lake is another step closer as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District advertises the availability of a lease for a commercial marina at the popular reservoir near Porterville.

Water level restrictions for Success Lake have been eased following positive results from ongoing dam safety studies and a commercial marina operator is being sought to serve boaters – possibly as early as the 2015 recreation season.

The previous marina operator moved his operation to the Corps’ Pine Flat Lake near Piedra in 2008 when ongoing safety studies necessitated pool restrictions at Success Lake.

“Though it might seem unusual to be offering this opportunity during a period of drought, drier conditions can actually be a handy time to assemble a marina structure,” said Calvin Foster, Sacramento District southern area operations manager. “Building a complete marina takes considerable time and effort.”

Applications for the marina lease at Success Lake will remain open until 3 p.m. Sept. 10, 2014. Further information regarding the lease is available by contacting the USACE Sacramento District Real Estate Division at 916-557-7013.
