Corps manages vital projects at Presidio
The inner courtyard of the new general instruction building for the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center at the Presidio of Monterey in Monterey, Calif., May 8, 2014. The courtyard sits on the roof of the second floor which allows all interior facing rooms to receive sunlight through windows which reduces the use of interior lighting and electricity. The courtyard also features multiple skylights to provide natural lighting to the assembly hall below. All rainwater that lands on the facility is collected in large underground cisterns and will provide non-potable water for toilet-flushing. The institute is one of several major construction projects at the Presidio managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District and is scheduled to be complete August 2014. The program incorporates the latest energy and water conservation technologies in order to operate more efficiently and in a sustainable, environmentally friendly manner. (U.S. Army photo by Capt.
