Construction workers build the frame for a one-megawatt solar microgrid project at Fort Hunter Liggett, Calif., Dec. 22, 2011. The frame will support photovoltaic panels, said Bob Roy, a project manager with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District, which is overseeing the project. The grid, scheduled for completion in April 2012, is expected to be the first of four at the post. Once complete, the grid will generate enough energy to power 250 to 300 homes. Along with the energy production, the panel arrays will form a canopy that will shade the majority of the post’s vehicles. (U.S. Army photo by Carlos J. Lazo/Released)
