SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District awarded a $3.47 million contract Sept. 23 to J. I. Garcia Construction Inc. of Fresno to renovate a fire station at the Military Ocean Terminal Concord, better known as MOTCO.

MOTCO provides terminal and distribution services in support of deploying and re-deploying U.S. forces worldwide.  The fire station is located on the tidal side of the installation where storage and transportation operations take place.  The renovations will improve the existing single-story fire station to better support the firefighters who would respond to an emergency on this side of the installation.

“This project represents a big improvement in the quality of life for the first responders who use this facility on a daily basis,” Corps project manager Pete Broderick said. “But these improvements will also enhance the overall safety of the installation.”

The project will add 872 square feet of modern living space and renovations to the existing station. The vehicle bays will be enhanced to accommodate MOTCO’s new fire engines and equipment.

J. I. Garcia Construction is designated as a small business under the U.S. Small Business Administration’s business size regulations.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District provides planning, engineering, project management, environmental restoration and construction services to military and civilian customers in parts of eight western states, including California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon and Wyoming.
