Artist rendering of the new Ogee Weir that will be constructed as part of the Tule River Spillway Enlargement Project. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District released today a draft environmental assessment outlining the Tule River Spillway Enlargement Project at Success Lake in Tulare County.

The project includes widening the Success Dam Emergency Spillway from 200 to 365 feet wide, and realigning a portion of Worth Drive-Avenue 146 from its current route in the spillway footprint.

The road realignment will prevent road closures during high water encroachment and allow better use of sandbags or other measures used to temporarily increase the existing spillway elevation, thereby increasing the storage capacity of Success Reservoir for flood risk management purposes.

The Draft EA is available now for review on the project web page at https://go.usa.gov/xVvCR and at the Lower Tule River Irrigation District Office in Tipton, California.

A public meeting is scheduled for October 8, 2019, to discuss the document, ask questions of Corps staff, and to submit comments for the record. Comments will be accepted until Oct. 26, 2019.

The public meeting will be held:
Oct. 8, 2019; 4-7 p.m.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall
1900 W. Olive Avenue
Porterville, CA 93257

Recreational facilities at the lake were added after the dam was completed. The dam is located on the Tule River about 6 miles east of the City of Porterville.
