Fish Highway Takes Shape at Sacramento Weir
Early construction of the Sacramento Weir fish passage structure on Feb. 14, 2024, shows the initial phases of what will become an 8,600-foot "double hybrid technical fishway" managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District. The innovative structure will allow endangered salmon, steelhead and sturgeon to safely navigate through flood control infrastructure during high-water events. Upon completion, this state-of-the-art system will be the first of its kind in California to accommodate both salmon and large sturgeon up to 10 feet in length.
