Dave Smith, research ecologist from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Engineer Research and Development Center in Vicksburg, Miss., surgically implants an acoustic tag into a 1-year-old steelhead trout March 25, 2013, at the Coleman National Fish Hatchery in Anderson, Calif.
