Lt. Col. Laura Shiplet

Lieutenant Colonel Laura Shiplet is Deputy Commander for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District. She joins the district from Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri where she served as the Battalion Executive Officer of 554th Engineer Battalion, 1st Engineer Brigade.

LTC Laura Shiplet was born in Oakland, California to Naval Chief Petty Officer Connie Shiplet and Naval Senior Chief Gary Eagle. She received her commission into the Corps of Engineers through the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) Reserve Officer Training (ROTC) Program and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography on 17 May 2002. Later she earned her Master of Science Degree in Geography also from UNR. She is a graduate of the Engineer Officer Basic Course, Engineer Captains Career Course, and Command and General Staff Officer College.

Her assignments include: Assault and Obstacle (A&O) Platoon Leader, Alpha Company, and later Battalion Support Platoon Leader, 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division (Big Red One) Fort Riley, Kansas and Ar Ramadi, Iraq; Headquarters, Headquarters Company Executive officer, 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Infantry Division; Brigade Movement Officer, 1st Infantry Division; Deputy Director of the Department of Public Works (DPW) for Southern Kuwait, Area Support Group (ASG), Kuwait; 77th Vertical Engineer Company Commander, 94th Engineer Battalion, 4th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri; Battalion Operations Officer (S3) and Observer Controller-Trainer, 361st Engineer Battalion, 5th Armored Brigade Fort Bliss, Texas;  Exercise Control Team Chief and later Deputy Commander of the World Class Opposing Forces (WCOPFOR), Mission Command Training Program (MCTP) Fort Leavenworth, Kansas;  Battalion Executive Officer (XO) for both the 31st Engineer Battalion and 554th Engineer Battalion, 1st Engineer Brigade Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. 

LTC Shiplet’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal, Naval Achievement Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Overseas Ribbon; German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge Silver; Combat Action Badge and the Bronze Order of the deFleury Medal.
