    Hansen named Sacramento District Regulator of the Year

    Kris Hansen, from our Reno, Nevada, regulatory office, has been awarded the Sacramento District Regulatory Excellence Award for her work in 2015. Hansen was instrumental in completing a complicated permit decision for a new large highway, the Reno-Sparks Southeast Connector.

    Kaitlyn Pascus wasn’t feeling a lot of love from her hometown of Chicago two years after graduating college. Looking for a fresh start and new adventures, she turned to the interwebs for potential landing spots. Sacramento and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seemed like an ideal destination.

    The Pathways Program has three sections: Internship Program for current students; the Recent Graduates Program for people who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs (2 years from the date the graduate completed an academic course of study); and the reinvigorated Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program for people who obtained an advanced degree (e.g., graduate or professional degree) within the preceding two years. These programs, collectively the Pathways Programs, are streamlined developmental programs tailored to promote employment opportunities for students and recent graduates in the Federal workforce.

With a swell of retirement-eligible baby boomers leading the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, a new band of heroes face a stiff challenge to quickly transform into future leaders of our nation’s premier public engineering agency.     Melanie Prescott, an industrial hygienist for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District, records an employee’s ergonomic measurements March 11, 2015, at the district headquarters in Sacramento, California. Prescott has been announced as the first Corps employee, and one of 40 young professionals, to be honored as a rising star of safety. She’ll be recognized for her efforts to make workplaces safer during the National Safety Council’s annual Congress Sept. 26-Oct. 2 in Atlanta.
