Central Valley Integrated Flood Management Study

The Central Valley Integrated Flood Management Study is a watershed study of the Sacramento River Basin being conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District. The watershed study is intended to be the federal companion to California Department of Water Resources' efforts on the Central Valley Flood Protection Plan, which is the state's plan for long-term sustainable flood management in the Central Valley. Both the Corps and DWR share a common goal of developing a consistent and mutually complementary system-wide strategy for flood risk reduction and environmental stewardship.

We expect our watershed study to develop a comprehensive basin-wide management plan that:

  • Assesses watershed characteristics and conditions
  • Identifies existing or potential watershed issues
  • Develops, evaluates and prioritizes conceptual alternatives including structural and non-structural measures, and
  • Recommends potential projects under federal, state or local authorities

The Sacramento District hosted an informational meeting Dec. 16, 2015, to share its progress in identifying potential long-term, sustainable water resource projects within the Sacramento River watershed.
