    Trust, commitment and partnerships underpin FUDS foundation

    More than 10,000 former Department of Defense properties within the U.S and its territories have been identified as potentially posing some degree of risk to humans or the environment. The sites range in size from as small as a football field to an area as large as New York City. Fortunately, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District and its partner agencies are committed to discovering and removing hazardous remnants of past military activities before anyone else.

    In first and second grades, Sacramento District’s Matt Valentine was good at drawing mazes. He was given some graph paper, started drawing floor plans and then found out the task was something people actually got paid to do!

    Matt Valentine, an architect with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District, learned about career opportunities in the Corps during an architecture job fair at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Nine years later, Valentine represented the district at the 2018 edition of the same job fair.

The station will improve response times and the quality of life for the firefighters who live and work there. The $14 million facility will house 45 firefighters and has enough space for 16 vehicles.

    Hill AFB opens 35,000 square-foot flight line fire station

    Firefighters here have a new home – a 35,000 square foot facility that not only improves their response times, but also their quality of life. The building’s grand opening Thursday – attended by Air Force leadership, federal, state and local politicians – was marked by a traditional ceremony, where instead of a ribbon being cut, a fire hose was uncoupled and a “return home” code rang from a bell.

    Army Corps tests fire response system as F-35 hangar nears completion

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District is taking no chances that a rare but catastrophic aircraft fire could destroy one of the U.S. Air Forces’ new F-35 Lightning II jets.
  • The Pathways Program has three sections: Internship Program for current students; the Recent Graduates Program for people who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs (2 years from the date the graduate completed an academic course of study); and the reinvigorated Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program for people who obtained an advanced degree (e.g., graduate or professional degree) within the preceding two years. These programs, collectively the Pathways Programs, are streamlined developmental programs tailored to promote employment opportunities for students and recent graduates in the Federal workforce.

    There is a tremor in the workforce. With a swell of retirement-eligible baby boomers leading the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, a new band of heroes face a stiff challenge to quickly transform into future leaders of our nation’s premier public engineering agency. A collection of young professionals born from 1981-1996, millennials hold a cosmic cloud of information at their fingertips and are finding a new “Pathway” to success, designed to make them the most well-trained decision makers the Corps has ever seen.
