Black Butte Lake recreation areas to remain closed during winter months

Two recreation areas at Black Butte Dam and Lake will remain closed through the winter months, during which critical repairs to aging utility infrastructure will take place. 

The two recreation areas impacted by the closures include:

  • Buckhorn Recreation Area and Buckhorn Campground
  • Orland Buttes Recreation Area and Orland Buttes Campground

Open Recreation Areas:

  • Eagle Pass Day Use Area
  • Burris Creek Recreation Area*
  • Grizzly Flat Recreation Area
  • Observation Point

We understand that the impacts of these closures will be felt by the public and apologize for any inconvenience. Our goal is to provide a safe and sustainable recreation experience. These closures will allow us to focus the efforts of existing staff on the primary mission of operating and maintaining Black Butte Dam.

*The Tehama County Department of Public Works has closed the bridge at Newville Road and Kendrick Creek, which will limit access to Burris Creek recreation area until further notice.
