SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District will host Truckee River Day and celebrate the spirit of National Public Lands Day Oct. 14, 2012, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Martis Creek Lake in Truckee.

Volunteers are invited to work with the Tahoe Divers Conservancy and Corps park rangers to help restore the ecosystem at the lake by placing bottom barriers that eradicate invasive plant species.

Additionally, volunteers can work on trail maintenance and barbed wire removal projects.

A watershed fair and fish release will follow the work projects.

Martis Creek Lake was created with the completion of Martis Creek Dam in 1972. The dam and lake help reduce flood risk for the surrounding region and provide a host of recreation activities.

For more information about participating in Truckee River Day or visiting Martis Creek Lake, please contact: Park ranger Jacqui Zink at jacqueline.a.zink@usace.army.mil or call 530-587-8113.
