Published Oct. 2, 2012

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District awarded five levee construction contracts totaling $16,213,075 for flood risk reduction work along the American River in Sacramento.

Four of the five contracts awarded Sept. 24-30, 2012, were to U.S. Small Business Administration 8(a)-designated small businesses. The Small Business Administration’s 8(a) Business Development Program is designed to help small, disadvantaged businesses compete for federal contracts.

The work is to be completed in 2013 and is part of the American River Common Features Program, a joint effort between the Corps, the state’s California Central Valley Flood Protection Board and the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency, to reduce flood risk throughout the region.

“These levee projects demonstrate the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer's continued efforts in reducing Sacramento’s overall flood risk,” said Col. Bill Leady, commander of the Sacramento District.

The levee construction projects will focus on strengthening certain levees sites and bringing them up to Corps standards by installing water seepage barriers, widening and raising levee heights, and substantially improving erosion protection along the American River.

The September 2012 contracts awarded are as follows:

Contractor Services Group, Inc. of West Sacramento was awarded $2.3 million Sept. 24.

Anderson Burton Construction, Inc. of Arroyo Grande was awarded $3.9 million Sept. 28.

RDA Contracting, Inc. of San Rafael was awarded $1.1 million Sept. 29.

Pacchiosi Drill U.S.A. of New York was awarded $3.9 million and $4.8 million Sept. 30.
