Corps to begin installation of new guardrail along American River Bike Trail

Published May 2, 2016

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District and its contractor Kiewit Infrastructure will begin installation of a new guardrail along a one-mile stretch of the American River Bike Trail near the Folsom Dam Auxiliary Spillway construction area beginning May 2.

The guardrail is designed to protect cyclists and pedestrians on the bike trail from vehicle traffic along Folsom Lake Crossing.

Installation will take place between the hours of 7 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and the project is expected to last through mid-June. Overnight work could occasionally extend into early morning commuter hours.

A single-lane roadway closure and bike trail detour should be expected along the project area during construction hours. Digital roadway signs and construction crew flaggers will be present to alert motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.

The auxiliary spillway project is being constructed under the Corps’ Folsom Dam Modification Project, also called the Joint Federal Project, to implement dam safety and flood risk reduction features at Folsom Dam and associated facilities to help prevent catastrophic flooding in the Sacramento region. The auxiliary spillway is on track for completion in October 2017.
