SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District awarded a $14.6 million contract July 16 to Mascon Inc. of Sacramento for the construction of a public safety center facility at Defense Distribution Depot San Joaquin in Tracy.

“The facility will be used to co-locate the fire department; police department; and the security, environmental, safety and occupational health departments,” said project manager Jerry Iacopini.

The depot is one of two West Coast hubs for military distribution activities, stocking items commonly ordered by the military services.

Construction of the 34,544-square-foot facility is scheduled to be completed in August 2014. The facility will be built to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards.

Mascon Inc. is a U.S. Small Business Administration-designated small business. The federal government sets aside certain contract bid opportunities exclusively for small businesses.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District provides planning, engineering, project management, environmental restoration and construction services to military and civilian customers in parts of eight western states, including California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon and Wyoming.
