Corps releases FONSI and Final EA for segments of Martis Valley Trail

Published Jan. 3, 2018

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District today released its final environmental assessment and finding of no significant impact for approximately 1.5 miles of paved, multi-use recreational trail crossing through federal property at the Martis Creek Lake and Dam Project.

The finding of no significant impact, also known as a FONSI, permits Placer County and the Northstar Community Services District to complete another segment of their proposed regional trail, connecting the Town of Truckee with the Lake Tahoe Basin.

The approved right-of-way will allow for a proposed 10-foot-wide paved trail with two-foot-wide unpaved shoulders on each side parallel to State Route 267.  The approved alignment will maintain ample safe space between vehicles and trail users.

The federal land through which Martis Creek flows is home to significant historical, cultural, and natural resources, including prehistoric Native American sites and associated artifacts that date back more than 3,000 years.
